Shirley: Cadence Lighthouse Ministry

Friday, August 8

Tonight, we go up the hill near Yokosuka Chuo to help with the 6 PM hospitality ministry at Cadence Lighthouse. This is a ministry serving at the military in our area. Jim and Martha Bowden are the new directors who took over for the Cassidy's who have been moved to Hawaii to start a new hospitality ministry there. Part of the VBS team were housed at this facility last year. The TMK team will spend one night here, Sunday night, August 10, when they come down from Tokorozawa to visit us at NBF in the afternoon.

Matt graciously agreed to lead worship for this time and taught us a new song, "Everlasting God". Kohichi and I tried to be good back-up members for him. We have no clue what constitutes "current" or "new" Christian music at this point in our lives, so we are grateful for the new, youthful input. We are glad to add this to our prehistoric repertoire of songs some which seem to predate Gregorian chant by a millennia. In short, Matt was awesome! What a gifted young man and praise to the Lord for making him such a fine worship leader already at such a young age.

The VBS team went up around 4 PM to help prepare for the dinner ministry. The program started at 6 PM and ended around 8 PM. Even though I thought this too was a great opportunity to serve, Kohichi and I did wonder if it was too much for the team. Everyone looked so tired. I was glad everyone was able to get here and back in a taxi. We even got the same taxi driver twice, coming and going, which was an added blessing--less worry for me about them getting lost on the way "home"! It was a very, very full week, but one full of God's grace as usual. We do pray that we have been faithful stewards of what the Lord has entrusted into our Hands this week and that we would see good fruit produced from our efforts some day soon.
